Caille Branch Library
The Caille Branch Library is a part of the Siouxland Library system in Sioux Falls, SD. It is one of five libraries within Sioux Falls city limits. This system also includes seven additional branches in the surrounding smaller towns that are located within Minnehaha county. Customers have access to all Siouxland resources and can request to have items transferred to Caille or their preferred branch at any time. This makes for a very large collection which serves a metro population of over 250,000 people.
Caille is a busy library that continues to have circulation statistics just below the largest library branch in Downtown Sioux Falls. This library is located near a busy commercial area in town and it often has a more suburban feel to its clientele. It serves predominantly white families. There are also several apartment buildings within walking distance that house senior populations and they also make up a large part of their user base.
Caille underwent a complete internal renovation to its physical space that was finished in 2017. The entire building exhibits fun and vibrant colors from floor to ceiling. The kids area is incredibly inviting and has many special features. It includes several areas that are for ages 0 - 5 and many families take advantage of these spaces. During my visit on a Wednesday morning there were approximately 35 people in children's area. Kids were loving the space and it was clear that staff were allowing them an interactive and playful atmosphere.
It also offers an additional programming room with space for about 45 people. However, you can open an entire wall if you have a large storytime crowd. This opens the program room to the entire children's area. Staff mentioned they enjoy doing this over the weekends to get as many families involved as possible. The program room features tables and workspaces for kids, fun carpet squares for children to choose at storytime, and a presentation screen with audio and video capabilities.
